Karate Moves (Karate Basics)

This essential karate training guide was produced in 2020 for my students in response to COVID-19 and the temporary closure of the DOJO. Please enjoy your training. OSU!   Sandra Contreras (Sensei)

First! Warmup

Slowly warm-up before every training session. Explosive movements are typical in KARATE, so be methodical about your warm-up. Include all major joints and muscles, head-to-toes or toes-to-head. Be mindful: randomly doing exercises that you just happen to remember is bad practice and you should avoid it. Ensure your body produces enough energy, and increase your body temperature to make your muscles and joints comfortable during training.

neck warmup

The basic exercises for upper and lower body will be uploaded again soon -we know you love referring to them!

In the meantime, have a read of our recent articles, to be found on the homepage. Keep checking for our recent uploads. Also make sure to check out our updated karate terminology and grading guide pages.
